Camp Purposeful PLAY provides an opportunity for Campers to develop physical literacy skills; "because the benefits of physical movement are not just limited to one facet of a person's overall health", Purposeful PLAY creates an experience whereby children and youth are provided with endless physical activity possibilities for healthy development. Campers are provided the necessary conditions to develop physical competence and confidence through movement, but are also given the foundations to develop autonomy, independence and friendships in an effort to improve academic performance, cognitive skills, mental health, psychological wellness, social skills and healthy lifestyle habits.
Purposeful PLAY is not just a summer camp that specializes in a single sport discipline, it is about the development of the whole child through activity based movement opportunities. By connecting the Campers to nature based activities and through cultural connects to the land, Purposeful PLAY is designed to foster the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in a variety of activities in a variety of environments.
The core camp programming consists of a variety of:
- Indigenous and Cultural world games
- Wide and cooperative games that connect oneself to nature
- Activities that develop fundamental movement skills for sport transference
- Games that develop executive functioning for a deepening of the necessary skills, strategies and tactics of movement
- Movement activities that develop growth mind sets
- Experiences that foster risk-taking and challenges for resiliency building
- Games that develop independence and perseverance
