Stacey holds a Bachelor of Physical Education, Bachelor of Education, a Master’s degree in Integrated Studies and has recently completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Theorizing Curriculum and Teacher Professional Development. Stacey has been with Edmonton Public Schools since 1998, having previously served as a Consultant within the Comprehensive School Health Unit as part of Student Learning Support Services and is considered the leading expert within Edmonton Public Schools on Physical Literacy. Having started her teaching career at Nipisihkopahk Secondary School in Maskwacis, she has since carried out a variety of roles and responsibilities from classroom teacher status to that of department head, teaching for a brief period of time at l’Université de McGill in Montréal, Québec and with the University of Alberta as a seconded Sessional Professor. She presently holds an executive table officer’s position with the Health and Physical Education Council of Alberta as the Vice- President of Leadership Curriculum and Pedagogy. Stacey has had the pleasure of working with Alberta Education on the K-12 Wellness Education draft from 2014-2018. She has worked with many First Nations across Alberta and Saskatchewan, organizing and running Wellness related camps with children and youth; developing community resources and writing both language and land-based curricula in the preservation of language and culture through movement. Outside her duties related to teaching, Stacey is an avid outdoor enthusiast, enjoying her time in all seasons from activities like hockey to mountain biking and everything in between. Family time is precious to her, and she always holds a special kind of space and gratitude for them in her heart.

Andrew is currently a Ph.D candidate at the University of Alberta having recently completed his Master’s in Education focusing on the concept of Physical Literacy within Health and Physical Education curricula. He has been with Edmonton Public Schools since 2001 and has worked as a Teacher; Department Head of Physical Education, Health and the Sports Sciences; PE and Health Consultant; New Teacher Mentor, worked as a Curriculum Manager for Alberta Education, and taught classes in Education at the University of Alberta. Andrew's is on his second secondment with Alberta Education after having left his third year as one of Vimy' Ridge High School's Assistant Principals. He loves working with children and youth and has worked with many First Nations across Alberta and Saskatchewan, organizing and running Wellness related camps with children and youth; developing community resources and writing both language and land-based curricula. Away from teaching, he enjoys being physically active, running at some events across Alberta, and playing soccer throughout the year. He also loves spending time with his family: with his wife, who is also an educator, and his twins Annabel and Gavin.

Heather Rootsaert has been teaching Physical Education for the past 26 years. She has had the distinct privilege of teaching Kindergarten through to Gr. 12 students and the opportunity to open a kindergarten to grade 9 school and a secondary grade 9 to12 school over her career. She has been the Physical Education and Health Curriculum Consultant, two times for a total of nine years with her respective school division, and has recently stepped into the role of Assistant Principal at an Edmonton Jr/Sr High School. In addition to teaching Physical Education, Heather is a long-time basketball official for the past 20+ years, and a coach of numerous sports from pre-school to high school while still finding time to play ball hockey, golf and bike. Heather loves to be active with her husband, their three children and their dog, spending as much time outdoors as possible. Heather thoroughly enjoys working with or presenting whether it's to children, youth or adults and she loves to learn and grow her knowledge of trends and research. Heather is well-known for her vibrant lessons and wide range of activities that target the four domains of physical literacy. Her students or participants appreciate her love of physical activity and her desire to push them to achieve their personal best in all they do.

Kyla is a certified educational assistant for the Okanagan School District 23, where she has spent the last 10 years working with students who fall outside regular community classroom contexts. Her speciality is working with students found on the autism, anxiety, and ADHD spectrums within various classroom environments and behaviour designations. She is BIT and CEA certified to operationalize universal supports and interventions for students ages 4-13 through social emotional learning modalities. She is an active Kelowna native, who appreciates the vast nature-based playground she has access to in her backyard. As a lively outdoor enthusiast, she feels grateful that the Valley's backdrop is her connection to nature and place of grounding. Kyla is a wife and mother of 2 very active teenagers and 2 energetic dogs, whom she loves spending time with.
